Once you get your blade you need to strop it and make sure the edge is ready to shave. This is easily done with a few slow passes.

Keep the blade flat with a very slight angle to hit the edhe but do not roll the edge as this will make the blade dull

Never move the blade toward the cutting edge as it will cut into the strop, resulting in dulling of the edge and damage to the strop.
A few strokes are usually sufficient. A strop is best used before you even think your edge is dull.
Used consistently, it is a key step in maintaining a razor-sharp edge.
You strop on the leather surface, not the rough leather bottom, but you use the very top of the strop. The blue part is a light cleaning of the edge before you start to strop.
Stropping is a motion that pulls the cutting edge of a blade away from a strip of leather in order to sharpen the blade. It’s a great method of keeping a razor clean and easy to use as it produces a very sharp final edge.
Stropping helps smooth the rough edges off your blade and sets the teeth in alignment—it gives a straight razor a keen edge to help make shaving easier.
Hanging strops are the most common. They consist of a canvas strap and a leather strip.

Eight Easy Steps for Straight Razor Shaving

If you love wet shaving, then this places you among the top minimum. That means you’ll need to buy a straight razor, a nice strop, a decent brush and a shaving cream or soap. Most serious straight shavers also use some aftershave to cleanse the skin to stop any weepers or nicks.
Easy steps for straight razor shaving
1. Wash your beard and face with warm water, or alternatively soak your towel in warmwater and hold it against your face until it becomes cold
2. Get hold of your brush and soak it in warm water
3. Squeeze out the water from the brush. Try making lather with a brush in a container and wet your face with the lather before it dries up
4. Use the brush again and apply the soap or cream around the hairy area or face
5. After a few minutes of lather forming stiff peaks, use a hot towel to wipe away the extra leather so as to clear the skin follicles for moisture to penetrate
6. Re- lather the beards once again and let it sit for a few minutes before starting to shave with a straight razor
7. You’ll need to bend your skin as you shave and use the blade while inclining it at an angle of about twenty-five degrees and cutting the beard in the direction of hair growth.
8 After making the first, second and possibly the third pass of cutting your beard, rinse the lather off your face with cold water and once it is dry consider throwing a bit of an after shave .
Wash all your equipment, dry them, hang the brush upside down and strop the razor with a razor strop.
